2 big new finds.

User Templates For Evernote.Kustom Note is AMAZING!!

I just came across Kustom note today, and wow. It really adds some depth to Evernote in that it allows for pre-formatted notes. What a great addition to an amazing system!

I also came across Chime, a plugin for nearly every social network that works inside of Chrome (search for Chime in the Chrome Web Store).  It’s lovely, and simple and has a nice scrolling feed of all the updates as they come in. It can be a lot (sip slowly from the firehose) but very useful already.

I’m looking forward to using them together more.

Some great new tools I’ve been playing with (Mint.com, Tagmindr-Del.icio.us)

minttagmindrSo as usual I love to try out new services. Thanks to the folks at Mashable (you guys rock!) and Lifehacker I’ve found some new great tools.

Mint is a money management site (it’s brand new, don’t feel bad if you haven’t heard of it).

It sounds scary at first: give us all your logins to all your money based places and then we’ll keep it all current and suggest ways to save money and show you reports of what you’ve been doing. Yes, they do have access to your stuff, the thing to know is that these guys are funded and backed by banks who have a vested interest in NOT losing your money (whew!) The really great thing about this is that it really helps you see where your money is and what it is doing in real time. If you’re like me you’ve got cards and banks spread in a few places and would like to organize what’s going on with them. Its a really great tool and I highly recommend it if you’re comfy working with your money online. The real trick on money online, is don’t give out your passwords, and keep them in a secure place, don’t use public computers, and if someone just calls and asks for your login,, DON’T give it to them! Be safe people!

Second, Tagmindr I’ve been asking for a service like this for quite some time. Now you have a way to remind yourself of a website and send it to yourself and others by

1.Reminding yourself of it

2. click on the link

3.Go to the site

4.Send it to whoever needed it at that time.

Just think, you want to remind your mom to check out a website to pick out a perfect gift for your sister (like ya do) and there you have it! Simple reminders (all from free services mind you). What a great little trick!

Not Invented Here Syndrome,, what’s the cure?

Mine Mine Mine Mine Mine!!!

This is the whine of many companies, and their innovation strategies. It’s interesting, some companies when approached are more than excited to take a look at new ideas from outside sources (as well as signing simple NDA’s (Non-Disclosure-Agreement) that detail that they won’t share the I.P. independently developed and produced with outside developers own time and money).

It’s surprising that so many places dismiss an outside idea. Especially since many outer opportunities, while not fully able to fit with their company can, at least introduce new ideas, thoughts, and concepts to them. Granted, most that look at outer company’s ideas simply find an intellectual property work-around and knock them off to get in the same product category.

Companies should realize that the level of monetary benefit alone exceeds the simple “cost of signing an NDA” (which, to be sure is the simplicity of writing their name, and faxing or emailing a document back). At that point, they can receive the document, prototype, or presentation, and identify the next action (there you go GTDers).

The real thing that companies need to remember is that if someone truly brings you a good idea,, you will NOT LOSE MONEY ON IT. People are bringing you an idea (protected already by at the very least a provisional patent pending, to prove it is theirs). If someone has brought you a beneficial product design, give it a fair shake. You’re only supporting a small group (those who have brought you their idea), while you’re, likely large company benefits every time from an innovative product. With a new product in a new section of your product portfolio, you can always make more money on a idea that you manufacture in house. While the designer you are licensing to may require money, and a percentage of your profits, the money you will be making will always be more than they are making and can make your efforts more than worth your own time.

I would love some feedback on this, but I feel that I’ve got something here. As an independent developer, this is the only way for myself and others that do this sort of thing to succeed. People like me aren’t looking to “take all your money”. Our overhead is usually a computer, a small shop (think a few hand tools), our cost to live, the cost of patenting, and the time and effort to develop a product that seems to fit your company’s industry. It’s often vastly cheaper than having an independent design house do the work (though I do support them entirely), but more often these are people that are seeking you out, and have a passion to help you and your company. These are people that like what you’re doing and want to be helpful, just give em’ a chance is all I’m saying.

Sign that NDA.

See what they have to say.

At worst, make a friend, you never know when that idea will come up again, and be just what your company needs to get ahead!

Just a little food for thought for the day.

Happy Monday!

The Genesis of a Product, David Seah has made a thing!

Dave Seah Emergent Task PlannerI have a friend/co-conspirator/digital acquaintance, David Seah. He has an amazing blog and take on everything. If you read blogs regularly, or receive RSS feeds, I cannot recommend reading what Dave has to say enough!

He has been working to develop a product, from his brain, to other people’s hands for quite a while now.

Well, it’s almost time and he actually has a product, well, it’s being printed now anyway. He makes amazing planning sheets. He has been developing this, and many other charts for some time, this is the first of likely many to be coming from him.

It’s called his Emergent Task Planner. It’s like those little “to-do lists” you make all the time,, except,, it’s awesome! So neat, so clean, so organized. More than that, it really makes it fun to tick off tasks as you go. It’s funny, I’ve been using Dave’s forms for quite some time, along with a bunch of other time management sorts of things, and his just plain old work.

He’ll probably have an official purchase link up before too long, or you can just email him now (go to his site for the proper instructions here).

Way to go Dave!!!!

(oh yeah, if you wonder about the drinks photo on the site,, Dave’s not much of a drinker, but one hell of a photographer!)
